TheWorkforce Investment Act (WIA) places uponeach person the responsibility to search for jobsfirst. By completing an application at JobLink, your employment and educational background will be evaluated so that placement services canprovide referrals to jobs, job development or ideas on where to apply for jobs.Part of thefirst step is learning about JobLink and the resources ithas available in the Career Resource Center. A brochure isavailable that will guide you through the services andrecommend steps necessary to obtain ajob. To get ready for a job,  a resume or sample application can be completed inthe Career Resource Center. If you fear beginning theprocess of completing a resume or applications, viewing avideo can give you expert advice. You may also takeadvantage of workshops or look at brochures with examples ofresumes and applications. A world of information isavailable through the internet. Many sites are bookmarkedfor ease in providing online assistance with your careerplanning and job search. If your jobsearch does not lead to a job opportunity, self-assessmenttools using yourinterests and skills can help you decide on new job choices . Challenge yourself through self-discovery to find a new and fulfilling job. Follow thesteps below to move toward jobtraining.

First Step

Learn about JobLink (read and view the orientation JobLink brochure)

Fill out an application (register for work at the Employment Security Commission)

Complete a resume or fill out a sample application (available in Career Resource Center)

bullet

Search for work accommodation in Biarritz(fill out applications for 5-7 suitable job opportunities)

bullet

Assess self (Take any number of self assessments that may be paper, internet or computer based)

If you have not found employment, you may enter the second step. During this step it's time to get involved with career planning, take tests, etc. or schedule an appointment with an employment counselor. If you need other services prior to training, your case manager may refer you to a partner agency. As you pursue training, WIA will ask you to provide documents, attend workshops, take tests, talk with an employment counseling, locate a training provider etc.

Second Step

Provide documents (for example: proof of citizenship or alien status, age, letter from employer stating plant closure)

Take the TABE test (a test to measure basis reading and math levels)

Locate a Training Provider (select job training from a list of providers)

bullet

Apply for the Pell Grant (federal student aid)

bullet

Attend a Workshop (attend a workshop provided by JobLink, community college, etc.)

Take the Readiness Survey (a survey to access your readiness for job training such as childcare, transportation, etc.)

bullet

Complete a Job Training plan (an job training agreement between you and your case manager/employment counselor )
