| "The first song I remember hearing was 'The Thrill Is Gone' by B.B. King," says Will Derryberry. My father raised me on Chicago and Delta blues. Then I heard Eric Clapton and James Taylor and I knew I wanted to play guitar and write songs, too." Derryberry was raised in Auburn, California in the heart of the gold country. His parents moved there from Oklahoma before he was born. They brought with them the tradition of blues and roots music that thrives in the Dust Bowl. When they put a guitar in his hands, it was natural that what should come out of it would be all that they had put into him. Local folks began to recognize his talent immediately. At the tender age of twelve, Will played lead guitar in a band called "Purple Haze". Through his teens he moved on through "Metalize" to "Pax Mortis" (where he became a "Northern California death metal legend" according to one industry observer)and finally to his current three piece band. |
