Bill Gates recently dished this out in a speech at a high school. It wasabout 11 things they did not learn in school. He talked about how feel-goodpolitically correct teachings created a generation of kids who have no conceptof reality and how this lack of a concept set them up for failure in the realworld: Here's what he said: Rule 1: Life isnot fair-get used to it. Rule 2: The worldwon't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplishsomething BEFORE you feel good about yourself. Rule 3: Youwill NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won't bea vice-president with a car phone, until you earn both. Rule4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. Hedoesn't have tenure. Rule 5: Flippingburgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had different word forburger flipping-they called it opportunity. Rule 6: Hotels FranceIfyou mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes,learn from them. Rule 7: Before you were born,your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from payingyour bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool youare. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents'generation, try delousing the closet in your own room. Rule8: Your school may have done away with winners losers, but life hasnot. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you asmany times as you want to get the right answer. this doesn't bear the slightestresemblance to ANYTHING in real life. Rule 9: Newcastle hotel roomsLifesi not divided into semesters. You don't get summer off and very few employersare interested in helping you find yourself. You have to do that on your own. Rule10: Television is NOT real life. The real life people actually have toleave the coffee shop and to to shops.
